Samsung's new wearables focus on wellness

Samsung Gear S4 watch and smart home tech to be unveiled?

The trio emphasize fitness features such as the ability to swim in salt water with the Gear Sport and Fit 2 Pro, but they do not include the Bixby voice assistant technology.

Like the previous Gear Fit devices the Fit 2 Pro is a fitness band and smartwatch hybrid, with a long narrow display and a flexible strap.

There's no specific price for the Gear Sport yet, but expect a price somewhere between $200 and $300 ($300 is about £230 or AU$375).

Pricing and availability of these new Samsung wearables for Singapore are yet to be confirmed. Samsung has made the Gear IconX a bit lighter this time around, and it's also more ergonomic than before. Still, not even the latest Gear S3-one of the best smartwatches on the market-was enough to put Samsung in the conversation with Apple on the smartwatch side, or Fitbit on the fitness side. It's not almost the fitness beast Fitbit launched, which tracks your breathing and oxygen consumption and all sorts of other insane things, but Samsung's offering a lot of the same features in a much more attractive package.

With millions of Australians into swimming Samsung Australia could have a big victor on their hands with the release of a brand-new swim tracking app in partnership with Speedo. This means that both devices are safe to wear while walking in the rain or showering, and may be used for shallow-water activities like swimming in a pool or ocean. There's the Gear Sport smartwatch, which you can take in the pool with you, and the Gear Fit 2 Pro fitness tracker, which boasts Global Positioning System and offline Spotify support for taking your tunes on the go. To complement this, Samsung has upgraded its S Health app with a dedicated swimming section and partnered with Speedo to build a bespoke app.

There's a 300mAh battery inside the Samsung Gear Sport, and with wireless charging it should be easy to top up at night - hopefully no fumbling around in the dark for a cable.

Both the Gear Sport and Gear Fit2 Pro are compatible with Android devices running Android 4.4 or later, Galaxy devices running Android 4.3 or later, and iPhones running iOS 9.0 or later. The Samsung Gear Sport is powered by a dual-core chipset clocked at 1GHz, paired with 768MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage.

The Gear Fit2 Pro comes with the Speedo On swim tracking app pre-installed. Of course, you are able to still get your notifications on the Gear Fit2 Pro, so you can stay up-to-date with what is happening in the world while you are working out. The new version of its Gear IconX activity tracking earbuds come with a refined design that promises a more comfortable experience. That defeats the one major selling point of Samsung Pay.
