The Miami Dolphins have suspended linebacker Lawrence Timmons indefinitely, the team announced.

The club reportedly filed a missing person's report with Los Angeles police, who found Timmons at Los Angeles International Airport early Sunday morning shortly before he was slated to board a flight to Pennsylvania to visit family.

Timmons disappeared on Saturday night without informing the team and didn't play in Sunday's season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers. The Dolphins could to go after some or all of that bonus money, depending on what the team decides to do with Timmons for the remainder of the season or beyond.

At this point, it's clear by the term "suspended" that the Dolphins have concluded the event was a behavioral, rather than medical issue.

Although Lawrence Timmons' long-range future with the Dolphins remains up in the air, his immediate future has been decided: He doesn't have one.

Timmons is viewed as an integral part of Miami's defense, a hard-working linebacker that has success against both the run and the pass.

"I need to figure some things out before I talk about this", said Gase, via the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero. Timmons was starting at outside linebacker and had his steak of 101 consecutive starts snapped.

Most importantly, it reinforced coach Adam Gase's disciplinary structure that consists of only two basic rules: be on time and do your job to the best of your ability.

Timmons' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, was on WSVN-TV in Miami on Sunday night and said the personal matter caused Timmons' absence.

After the game, Gase would only say that Timmons did not play Sunday due to a coach's decision.
