A student was arrested early Friday morning after police say he made threats against Whiteland High School over social media.

More than 100 police officers raced toward the chaos at Mattoon High School just after 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

On Monday, a student doused himself in gasoline Monday morning at Geneva High School in the west suburb, but was stopped from injuring himself.

The school district will excuse any absences for families who wish to keep their children home.

A 15-year-old boy has been charged with disturbing schools, according to the Georgetown Police Department, after classmates said he threatened to "shoot up the school".

Over 100 police officers responded to the shooting after students and faculty fleeing the scene reported a shooter in the school's cafeteria. The school resource officer then stepped in and disarmed the student.

This past week, nightmare became reality at Mattoon High School in IL.

The teen's next court appearance is scheduled for October 5.

All other schools were dismissed at the regular time.

These days, Hines and McQueen are colleagues at Mattoon High School. Counselors also were on hand. The sophomore said he turned to look back toward the school and saw more than 150 students running behind them. The school felt empty, like he shouldn't be there.

Cox was safe outside of the building, however, he didn't feel it.

He said at the assembly, once McQueen came in, everyone immediately applauded.
