Legendary director IV Sasi, who made Mammootty and Mohanlal superstars, dies

This popular director has at least 170 films to his credit. After Sasi complained of uneasiness, he was rushed to the hospital but breathed his last on the way. Apart from Malayalam, he also has an experience in directing the movie in other languages such as Tamil and Hindi. He was also remembered for giving big breaks to Malayalam superstars Mammooty and Mohanlal. I V Sasi started his film career as an art director. Seven years later, he made his debut as a director with Ulsavam.

Some of his well-known blockbusters include "Alkoottathil Thaniye", "Kanamarayathu", "Aksharangal" and "Vadakaykkoru Hrudayam", "Itha Ivide Vare", "Angadi", "Ee Nadu", "Vartha", "Devasuram" and "Avanazhi".

He went on to marry Seema, who starred in several of his memorable films. "I offer my condolences to the family members in this hour of grief", Pinarayi said in a statement.

"My friend for 45 years I.V.Sasi is no more". He was honored with two state awards for his films. The industry and I mourn a great technician.

Kerala Assembly speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan said that the director was able to give a realistic treatment to people's problems through his movies.

Calling him the "master of Malayalam movie industry", Mohanlal said, "Portraying the life of commoners, IV Sasi was a man who made wonders on the silver screen". I grew up watching his movies and must say he was an icon who created movies that stood the test of time.

Mammoottys son Dulquer Salmaan wrote on Facebook, "RIP Sasi uncle!" It is not just in Malayalam cinema that IV Sasi made a mark.

Sound designer Resul Pookutty tweeted, "The man who rewrote the course of mainstream Malayalam cinema IV Sasi is no more". What a remarkable innings he had in the Indian cinema industry. "So many personal memories".
