Chelsea's David Luiz celebrates after scoring the first goal against AS Roma at Stamford Bridge in London October 19, 2017.

That's according to Stoke midfielder Charlie Adam in the wake of the Brazil global being dropped for Sunday's showdown with Manchester United.

Walker thinks the emphasis is now on Luiz to respond and raise his game if he wants to convince Conte that he deserves to be starting ahead of Christensen in the Blues backline.

The Blues looked back to their best following their harrowing 3-0 defeat at the hands of AS Roma in the Champions League last Tuesday, with the Premier League champions equally as impressive in both attack and defence.

"But obviously, it comes with games and he's had a lot of games in Germany so I still need to get to that point where I'll have loads of games at one team, because he stayed a few seasons at Mönchengladbach and he played literally every game and playing in that team, they finished high in the Bundesliga". Tactical decision. There is [Andreas] Christensen in really good form and also we have [Ethan] Ampadu who is a good young player.

"[It was] only a tactical decision, I repeat, only a tactical decision", he told reporters after the match.

"Conte has been quick to offload any revolting players in the past, and if the club's hierarchy continue to back the Italian, it would come as no surprise to see Luiz shipped in the January transfer window at just 6/4". I was very happy for this.

"It's simple", Conte said. "But I do the best things for my team".

One of the ironies of Christensen's rise to prominence, meanwhile, is that so many people had been expecting it to happen in a different way.

'I don't know, I think he handled the situation like any other manager would after a disappointing match'.

The report suggests that the former Paris Saint-Germain ace is concerned that his close association with Costa played a big part in his manager's decision, having attempted to play peacemaker between the two men earlier this year.

Luiz posed with his superfan outside the club's Cobham training ground and posted a video on social media with the caption: "Life is great!"
