Google adds restaurant wait times to Search and Maps

Google Will Now Tell You How Long the Wait Is at Your Favorite Restaurant

Hungry? Google can now tell you the wait time at restaurants, grocery stores

This isn't for restaurants requiring reservations, but the walk-in restaurants. So not only will you be able to see the times a restaurant is busy or if it might be busier than usual at the moment, you'll also know just how long you might have to wait for a table should you show up.

Estimating the wait time for a table at a restaurant seems anything but a science.

The feature will be arriving in Google Search first, followed soon after by Google Maps.

Wait times on Google Search, and coming soon to Maps, will show those searching for a restaurant the estimated wait at eateries.

For over a couple of years now, Google has been leveraging data from Google Maps' install base to deliver these sorts of insights. And this feature could theoretically be applied to the Apple store or Woolworths. Users will also be able to click on a specific time to get estimated wait times for that period. Similar to the busy times, a bar graph will show you the busiest times.

In this modern age, it seems like nearly all technological advances have a privacy trade-off.

Google premiered a new feature Tuesday that could save you from standing in line for groceries or being shunned by the host at your favorite restaurant.

Adding wait times is a minor feature upgrade that will at least make my life a little more convenient. The information will be displayed in the same section where "Popular Times" are displayed.
