Casting a female in the role kicked up some controversy with the Whovain fan-base, but as with each new incarnation of the Doctor, we need to give her (and the new show-runner) a chance to show us how awesome they can make Doctor Who be!
Earlier this summer, it was officially announced that Jodie Whittaker would become the 13th Doctor on the long running BBC series Doctor Who, the first woman to ever officially take on the role. However, there's going to be a little wait. Some will no doubt be hoping there'll be a Season 11 trailer after the Christmas Special, although that's unlikely considering the new season will only have been filming for a matter of weeks when the Christmas Special airs. Maybe I'll give this iteration of Doctor Who a shot when it arrives next year! It looks like JW's Doctor will adopt more of a free-spirited guise. David Tennant's Tenth Doctor sometimes wore a long coat, but the coloring is closer to the outfit worn by Peter Davison's Fifth Doctor. The suspenders, which some are vocal about hating, is obviously a callback to Matt Smith's Eleventh Doctor. Those trousers. Nary a decorative vegetable in sight, but the bold, colorful, eclectic look is a big departure from recent doctors' suits, including Peter Capaldi's magician-y feel, and reminds me a lot more of the more whimsical costumes of Doctors past. She deserves a chance to shine, and to show every one of her detractors that she can be just as great, if not better, than any Doctor that has come before.
