Three passengers were killed and nine others injured when 13 coaches of Patna-bound Vasco Da Gama Express derailed at Manikpur railway station in Chitrakoot district in Bundelkhand early on Friday morning.
Railway Minister Piyush Goyal expressed grief over the accident and announced compensation for the families of those killed in the accident. UP CM Yogi Adityanath has also announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 2 lakhs each to the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the injured passengers. "Ashwani Lohani, railway board chairman, has been asked to rush to the spot", he said.

"We have set up helpline numbers, rescue and relief operations are underway", Indian Railways PRO Anil Saxena said.
Railway officials are on the spot and investigating the reasons that led to the accident. The incident has disrupted the movement of trains on the Patna-Allahabad route.
The spate of accidents began at 7.19 pm yesterday when a local train hit a Bolero vehicle at an unmanned crossing near Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, killing four people and injuring two. The year 2017 has witnessed several train derailments. The engine of the Jammu-Patna Archana Express separated twice from the train near Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh.
