Xiaomi Redmi 5A First Impressions: Is it truly an upgrade to Redmi 4A?

It will be available starting December 7 at 12pm from Flipkart and Mi.com, and Mi Home Stores.

The company already has two smartphone manufacturing plants in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh where more than 95 per cent of its smartphones (sold in India) are assembled locally.

Xiaomi has also included a noise cancelling microphone, which favours the Redmi 5A as compared to what the competition offers. The first variant comes with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage.

The Redmi 5A is the successor to the Xiaomi Redmi 4A and comes with a dedicated microSD card slot as one of the key upgrades.

Xiaomi unveiled their all-new Redmi 5A in India on Thursday. The company has been pushing the device as "Desh ka smartphone" and is clearly aimed at appealing to the masses. However, the 5A comes with a metallic finish instead of a plastic look of the 4A. This is the success of budget phone Redmi 4A. After discount, the Redmi 5A variant will be available for Rs 4,999. Just like the Redmi 4A, the Redmi 5A also does not ship with a fingerprint scanner.

The Redmi 5A features a 5-inch HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720p and 296ppi pixel density. It is powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor coupled with Adreno 308 GPU, up to 3GB RAM and up to 32GB of internal memory which is further expandable by up to 128GB via a micro-SD card slot.
