The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has already issued an alert of heavy to very heavy rainfall in both the states.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off south Tamil Nadu, south Kerala coasts and Lakshadweep islands.

Squally weather has been forecast for towns along the south Kerala coast with winds up to 55 kmph blowing. "It is very likely to continue to move west-northwestwards across Lakshadweep Islands during next 24 hours and then move north/northeastwards during the subsequent 48 hours", said the bulletin.
