Making sense of the Eagles' decision to extend Alshon Jeffery

In a season that's seen the Eagles' rebuilding efforts rocket them into the Super Bowl conversation, Jeffery has arguably been one of the most important players. Jeffery signed a one-year deal with the Eagles this offseason after spending the first five years of his National Football League career in Chicago. Adam Schefter of ESPN provided the financial details and noted the deal included $1 million per season in potential incentives.

"I love it here", Jeffery said in a statement issued by the team. "We are excited about his future here". In the last four games, he scored five of his seven total touchdowns for this season. The deal announced Saturday afternoon comes amidst one of Jeffery's strongest season in his career after arriving to the team on a one-year deal from the Chicago Bears in the 2017 off-season. The extension would keep Jeffery in Philadelphia through 2021. He is second on the team with 43 receptions and 619 yards receiving. Zach Ertz, Jeffery, and Nelson Agholor have been the top three receivers this season, and all three are under contract next season.

The wideout has signed a four-year, $52 million extension with more than half his salary in guaranteed money.

"First of all I just want to thank (owner) Jeffrey Lurie and the entire Eagles organization", Jeffrey said in a statement. "We place a priority on making sure we are able to build the team around quality players like Alshon who embrace this team and this city the way he has".

It appears as though Alshon Jeffery has found a new (permanent) home. "We are excited about his future here".
