Move over, Katniss Evergreen, because Sophie Turner, 21, is the new girl on fire.
This time around, however, Kinberg appears to have more creative freedom, as the film ventures to space within its opening minutes.
X-Men: Dark phoenix promises a much more true-to-comics adaptation of the saga than The Last Stand, with fans being promised a space-based adventure for the X-Men.More news: Head To Mercury In The Destiny 2
"I would call Dark Phoenix a drama", Lawrence continues. (He even graces the cover of Time magazine in the film.) As a result, his "growing ego" starts to endanger the team. After they're dispatched to space for a rescue mission, a solar flare hits the X-Jet and the surge of energy ignites a malevolent, power-hungry new force within Jean (Game of Thrones' Sophie Turner) - the Phoenix. She's more maternal which surprised me. EW described Chastain's character as an "otherwordly shapeshifter who manipulates Phoenix for her own agenda". The team will consist of Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee), and Quicksilver (Evan Peters), with Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) again leading the team. Dark Phoenix will hit theaters on November 2nd, 2018, and will have Simon Kinberg at the helm.
Deadline broke details about the cast in June. At some point in the film, one of the X-Men is going to bite the dust, but it's unclear who.
"OMG." Turner wrote in a January 23, 2015 Twitter statement when she announced that she won the coveted role of Jean Grey in X-Men: Apocalypse. Still Kinberg has a long history with the franchise, having written or co-written the screenplays for X-Men: Apocalypse, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and X-Men: The Last Stand.
In further X-Men news, 20th Century Fox and IMAX have announced an extension of their previously-made deal that will include digital remastering of many of their films for an IMAX release, including X-Men: Dark Phoenix, The New Mutants, and Gambit.
