Nintendo Switch Sells 10M Units in Nine Months

Therefore, the 10 million sales, as reported by BusinessInsider, might surprise many, but nearly on release, I was convinced that Nintendo was back on top with a victor here and you know what?

On the backs of a clever piece of hardware and some of the most inspired titles in the Nintendo lineage, the company is riding high on their success.

Earlier this year Nintendo predicted that they would sell 10 million Nintendo Switch consoles by the end of this year, and this morning they announced they've already hit that milestone.

For comparison: It took almost two and a half years for the Wii U to reach the 10-million mark.

Solid Black Friday promotions helped Nintendo cross the 10 million units sold mark. What makes the Nintendo Switch stand out is that the device is two-fold. Up until fairly recently, it was hard to walk into a store and find one available for purchase.

Nintendo employees are focusing on addressing the increasing popularity of Switch by making sure that there are enough tablets to meet the consumers' need.

Fils-Aime previously told CNN Tech it was important for the console to have a consistent flow of new games - unlike the limited offerings made available to the Wii U. The Wii U, which was considered a flop, also lacked a clear user proposition. The concept makes it easy to "switch" from playing the game on the couch to taking it on the go. It's a home game console! Games like Rocket League, Golf Story, Shovel Knight, and Stardew Valley have found new and vast audiences on Nintendo's portable hybrid. Like magic, it's immediately on your TV and ready to play. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was released for the Nintendo Switch on April 28.

It will be interesting to see just how well the Switch will do this holiday season. That is, if you can find them. The Super Nintendo Classic, on the other hand, is nowhere to be found. It loads super fast, is a snap to navigate, and more or less intuitively "just works". Also, it seems that Nintendo has received good support from game publishers like EA and Ubisoft said the report. The Switch is now on target to surpass these sales within its first year on the market, depending upon how well it sells around the Christmas period.
