Trump has previously expressed scepticism about climate change science.

But there's a big difference between weather and climate, scientists say: Weather happens in the short term, while global climate systems influence weather over longer time scales.

Mr Trump wrote on Twitter on Thursday: "In the East, it could be the COLDEST New Year's Eve on record".

President Donald Trump says the East Coast "could use a little bit of that good old Global Warming" with bitterly cold temperatures expected to freeze large swaths of the country this holiday weekend. "Bundle up!", the science-denying tycoon tweeted out on December 28.

Why? Because weather and climate change are not the same thing, which IndyCar Series driver JR Hildebrand pointed out while firing off a tweet in response to the president. Trump also told the Times he wasn't anxious about the uncertainty concerning when the Mueller investigation might be concluded.

In fact, 2017 is on track to be the second-or third-hottest year ever recorded globally, according to researchers.

Of the Mueller probe, he said it makes America "look very bad, and it puts the country in a very bad position".

It's no secret that the majority of the Republican Party are not supporters of the consensus coming out of the scientific community when it comes to many high-profiled issues. "Do you even know what climate is?!" an additional tweet stated.

Either @realDonaldTrump doesn't understand the science behind climate change, or he is intentionally misleading the American people.

I'm going to say something really insane: I believe in science. It is a serious threat to our children. The accord set goals for slowing the rate of alleged climate change. Or does nothing he does surprise you anymore?
