New Zealanders first welcomed the new year Sky fireworks in Auckland's Sky Towers, while in Sydney, Australia, millions of tourists were present at the New Year's reception near the Opera House.

A giant digital clock on the tower was counting down before multi-colored fireworks exploded across the city skyline. In many cities, revelers take to the streets to celebrate the arrival of the New Year with the community while some prefer quiet time with family and friends.

Eastern Australia's cities of Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra and Honiara entered 2018 two hours after New Zealand and about an hour after Anadyr, Russia's easternmost town. "I feel this very abstracted sense of uncertainty, although I really have no idea what might happen".

Tens of thousands of revelers will ring in the new year in Las Vegas under the close eye of law enforcement just three months after the deadliest mass shooting in modern United States history.
