Acer and HP unveil new Chromebooks ahead of CES

Taiwanese technology conglomerate Acer has announced a new Chromebook at the ongoing CES 2018 tech show in Las Vegas, US.

"The 1366×768 11.6" screen is passable, with muted colors, but stellar viewing angles. Don't run in a panic to the dongle store-you still get two USB 3.0 Type-A ports (whew!).

The options to choose the specs are limited to just the processor and RAM capacity, other specs are as they are such as Intel HD Graphics 500, which comes integrated into both the Chromebooks. Both the Chromebooks come powered by 7th gen Intel Celeron N chipsets.

Battery life is claimed to be up to 10 hours on a single charge and Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity ensures you can make the most of Chrome OS and the many online Google software apps, such as Google Docs and Gmail. While other companies are holding off launches of their latest products for the CES 2018, HP went ahead and unveiled its newest pair of Chromebooks named Chromebook 11 G6 and Chromebook 14 G5. With a weight of 2.43 pounds, the laptop measures 0.71-inch thickness and looks slim.

"The new Acer Chromebook 11 continues Acer's tradition of delivering strong performance with all the benefits of Chrome OS at an excellent value", said James Lin, General Manager, Commercial & Detachable Notebooks, IT Products Business, Acer Inc. It has a fanless design that makes it quieter. It also has a microSD card reader. There will be a few variants on sale of the device with 2GB or 4GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of storage and touch or non-touch screen option. Certain intensive Android apps, like Asphalt 8, bogged the machine down at points, but I can't say that I was too surprised - funnily enough, the game actually failed to render when I loaded into a race. No Australian availability has been announced as yet.

Availability wise, Acer has said that the Chromebook will appear in the European, Middle Eastern, and African markets in March where the base model will start at €249, before launching in the United States in April for US$249.
