Business Chat is apparently Apple's way of catching up with a new social media practice that's been on the rise in which companies use Facebook Messenger to communicate with customers and others, especially for things like customer service.
The change will come as part of an iOS 11.3 software update, which will be released in the spring for consumers and was released Wednesday as a test for developers.
iOS 11.3: What's new in the latest update to your iPhone? Apple said it introduced the feature to prevent older devices from shutting down unexpectedly, but its quiet rollout - and the inability of users to opt out - led to widespread criticism as well as at least 15 class action lawsuits.
Apple hasn't confirmed an accurate release date for iOS 11.3. Apple hasn't yet provided specific details on when the HomePod will be updated with multi-room support, the company just stated that will be updated according to new devices.More news: Lowry And Power Start Well At Torrey Pines
The iPhone X, the first phone to feature Face ID, was referred to as "Modern iPhone" in early versions of iOS before it was released.
The app lets users chat with a service rep, schedule an appointment, or make purchases through Apple Pay without leaving the app. At launch this spring, the feature will support only select businesses, including Discover, Hilton, Lowe's and Wells Fargo.
For Apple, the new update could help make its devices more useful to the users. The downloadable data includes allergies, conditions, immunizations, lab results, medications, procedures and vital signs.
For iPhone X users, iOS 11.3 will also bring in four new Animoji: a lion, a bear, a dragon, and a skull.
Starting on February 9, a new feature will be available - HomePod. They can also opt to receive notifications when their information is updated.
Apple Inc's move on Wednesday to give iPhone owners information about the health of their batteries reverses the company's longstanding refusal to make such information available directly on iPhones and iPads, even though battery health has always been easy to check on Apple's Mac computers.
