An Oro Valley couple has filed a counterclaim against the Georgia Tech basketball coach, claiming sexual assault and sexual battery.
In a counterclaim filed in Arizona Thursday by Bell and his girlfriend, the two accuse Pastner of sexually assaulting her while Bell was in the shower.
Read the full claim here. It says Pendley and Bell were staying in the Hilton Americas Hotel downtown to support the University of Memphis men's basketball team, where Pastner was the head coach at the time.
Pastner flatly called the accusation "a lie".
"There was no sexual assault", the statement said. Josh never acted improperly with Ms. Pendley.More news: Salah 'expected' Liverpool heroics but denies being arrogant
But coach Josh Pastner had much more important things to worry about during the game.
Georgia Tech basketball coach Josh Pastner is facing very serious and troubling allegations. He played for UA under then-head coach Lute Olson from 1996-2000 and was a member of the Wildcats' 1997 national championship team. He spent the 2002-08 seasons as an assistant to Arizona's Lute Olson.
Last month, Pastner filed a defamation lawsuit in response to these allegations. The claim was later confirmed to be true, but Pastner said he had no knowledge of those benefits.
Pastner's lawyer, Scott Tompsett, issued a statement shortly after the filing, denying the sexual assault and calling Pendley's claim "malicious". On the night of February 9, the lawsuit said Pastner went to Pendley and Bell's room to discuss a mutual friend who was writing an article profiling Bell and Pastner's years-long friendship. "My family and I are victims of fraud and extortion and the extent to which these individuals have gone to harm us is truly unfathomable".
Pendley alleges Pastner sexually harassed her on several occasions.
