Team USA's Olympic flag bearer will be former bronze medal winner

The Sochi 2014 bronze medallist was selected following a vote by fellow members of the American team.

According to the Associated Press (h/t, Hamlin and Davis were two of the eight candidates to carry the flag. She's also the first US woman to win a world championship in luge. The luge star became the first US athlete to medal in singles luge since the event's inception in 1964.

Hamlin announced past year that she plans to retire after the PyeongChang Olympics. A tweet posted to the account of Davis is blasting the selection of luge athlete Hamlin as the USA flagbearer for the opening ceremony at the Pyeongchang Games.

Hamlin added: "It is definitely a privilege and honour to be the one to lead the team and will be a very special moment".
