Kremlin Distances Itself From Reports Of Mercenary Deaths In Syria

Reports: Russian Military Contractors Killed in US-Led Attack in Syria

The US-led coalition said it repelled that attack near the Euphrates River by hundreds of troops aligned with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who were backed by artillery, tanks, multiple-launch rocket systems and mortars.

Harrigian said the USA -backed coalition contacted the Russians through the "deconfliction" telephone line to make them aware of the unprovoked attack.

The reports follow one from Reuters on Monday, where former associates of two of the Russians killed identified them to the news wire.

A Cossack organization in Kaliningrad posted on social media that one of its members had also been killed, and the independent Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta, citing unnamed sources, reported that 13 Russians were killed and another 15 wounded. It said their associates also confirmed that "dozens" of other Russian fighters lost their lives in the same fighting on February 7.

Indeed, and as we noted last night, if and when the deaths are officially confirmed, it could turn into a political scandal for Putin, with the public demanding why the government is keeping military deaths under wraps.

"We are focused on a singular enemy - ISIS", said the Air Force general. The Trump administration is under investigation for alleged collusion with Moscow during the USA presidential campaign to tilt the election in Trump's favor, and a Senate committee found that Russian Federation had acted to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

Russian Federation also denies having personnel in the area.

Russian forces are supporting the Syrian government in its war with opposition groups, some of which are backed by the United States. They have nothing to gain by fighting us.

In a weird deflection of responsibility, Russia's military not only did not demand an explanation from the US for the deaths, but said it had nothing to do with the attack and the USA military accepted the claim.

In the past several years, the United States has supported some opposition groups in Syria which it called "moderates" against the Syrian government and also led an global coalition to battle the IS group.

Russian media was also reporting that several private Russian military contractors were killed in the strike, according to The Associated Press, which added that Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov refrained from comment.

The strike was the second by the US against "pro-regime" forces since Wednesday, according to the USA military's Central Command.

What about the Russian mercenaries?

Russian officials said that no Russian forces were involved in the attack, according to the New York Times.

"The fact that somebody chose to attack us, and the Russians are saying, "It's not us, ' and we are firing on them to stop the artillery fire, that, to me, is not a failure of the deconfliction line", Mattis explained. I advise you to contact the defence ministry".

The Russian citizens are fighting in Syria for a private military company, according to numerous reports.

The Sochi Congress, in which all segments of the Syria people including Syrian Kurds had participated, proved that the Syrians are firmly committed to their country's unity and safety, which is clearly highlighted in the final statement of the Congress, Bogdanov clarified.

Along with the Russian military, which has waged a military campaign in Syria backing the government since 2015, thousands of Russians have also reportedly fought there as private contractors.
