"They were helped in returning to Russian Federation where, to our knowledge, they are undergoing treatment in various medical institutions", the Foreign Ministry said in Tuesday's statement.

Russia's Foreign Ministry has admitted that "several dozens" of its nationals were injured in recent clashes with US -led forces in Syria, days after acknowledging five deaths in the battle.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has voiced concern that U.S. actions in Syria are aimed at partitioning Syria and accused Washington of using the Kurds to undermine the Arab Republic's territorial integrity.

The coalition claimed that it carried out airstrikes against "Syrian pro-regime forces" that launched an "unprovoked attack" on Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces' headquarters and killed an estimated 100 militia. Simakovsky added that the truth will always reveal itself because Russian forces have always had significant involvement in the Syrian conflict and have had liaison and coordination with the security forces and intelligence community from Moscow.

According to Lavrov, Moscow fears that by its actions in Syria, the U.S. is trying to dismember the country.

The US military has released a statement saying that the airstrike was a self-defense strategy following a non-provoked attack by more than 500 pro-government fighters.

"So, whatever happened, we'll try to figure it out".

Russia's foreign minister on Monday warned the United States against "playing with fire" in Syria. "We'll work with obviously anyone who can answer that question".
