- BB&T Bank restored ATM and automated phone services after a "technical issue" Thursday evening knocked them out.

A BB&T outage left millions of customers unable to access their accounts across the U.S.

There are several BB&T bank branches throughout metro Atlanta and the state of Georgia and all customers are affected.

It is unclear what the issue is or how long it will take to fix.

Responding to an individual customer's inquiry about not being able to see if their direct deposit was posted, the bank said on Facebook: "Once the system comes up we will process transactions and everything should be up to date". Officials say customers can still use their debit, credit and prepaid cards for the time being.

BB&T first acknowledged the problem on Thursday, the Charlotte Observer reported. "You claim to "hear" our frustrations yet you don't address that which we are frustrated about. At this time, we have no reason to believe this issue is related to cybersecurity". We will work with clients who have incurred fees or experienced other challenges and continue to provide updates through our website and social media.

BB&T is a financial services company founded in 1872 and based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
