Figure Skater Mirai Nagasu Wants to Go 'Dancing With the Stars'

Mirai Nagasu is a lesson in perseverance at Olympics

Women's Figure Skating: Who Are Yevgenia Medvedeva, Bradie Tennell? Gold Medal Favorites

The two-time Olympian received lots of attention for her team free skate program, where she became the first American woman in history to land a triple axel at the Olympics. They'll be in pursuit of Russian skaters Evgenia Medvedeva, who came to South Korea as the favorite, and 15-year-old Alina Zagitova, who stunned the skating world with a dazzling, 82.92 score to lead all skaters headed into the final, free skate portion.

Nagasu fell back on her stellar performance in the team event, which helped the USA secure a bronze, and said she considered that medal her main objective at these Olympics.

"I've been crying every day since the team event because I was so happy, but then we had to keep training and training and training", Nagasu said.

"I didn't finish as well as I'd have liked to, but it was a great experience", she said.

Mirai Nagasu is more anxious about getting on "Dancing with the Stars" than winning a gold medal in the Olympics.

Which is, well, why she isn't an Olympic champion, except in the field of complaining.

Sure, Nathan Chen did rebound from a dismal short program to have the highest-scoring free skate in the men's Olympic program.

MIRAI NAGASU: I wish I could land it perfectly every time. In August, Eccarius passed her final senior free skate test for US figure skating to reach double gold status.

"I can't speak for everybody, but for me, I'm sticking around and I'm going to work as hard as I possibly can to bring us up in the ranking", Tennell said.

The women's figure skating competition continues on Tuesday, February 20 with the women's free skate.

While Nagasu has Olympic experience from 2010, she spoke after her free skate of "other commitments" that made these Games hard, such as not being able to take a warm shower until Friday.

All three USA women intend to skate on.

Just like the rest of her teammates.

Maybe Nagasu's comments suggest misplaced priorities, but we're very much willing to cut her some slack. "I would like to be on 'Dancing with the Stars" because I want to be a star". And so I like to think of myself as one of the best, but I just made a little, tiny error today. She has been consistent throughout her breakthrough season, but this time fell on the second part of her triple lutz-triple toe loop combination. Let's look at what's really going on here.

"I felt strong and in the best shape that I've ever been in my entire life, she said". In a note shared on Twitter and Instagram, she said that a "rut" in the ice had prevented her from executing the triple axel.

The competition will put Tennell's routine to a test. As the first skater on the ice, that total should keep her in first place for quite a while.

"This isn't what I wanted, but at the same time, you can't always have what you want".

"For us, Italy placing fourth in the team event with all these big strong nations was such an unbelievable accomplishment". "Many did not understand why she wouldn't pull through because it was in her home country, and she said you will strongly feel when it is time to stop". "We will shut the restaurant, go quickly, and come back quickly". In hockey it's the Czech Republic vs. the Olympic Athletes from Russian Federation and Canada vs. Germany to determine who will play for gold.
