In fact, Griffin almost got left out of the combine entirely despite twice receiving All-ACC honors, and being named the ACC Defensive Player Of The Year in 2016.

His personal max was 11 reps, but he had a much more modest benchmark in mind here.

It felt wonderful to reach that goal, ' Griffin said following his performance.

Griffin clipped his prosthetic hand onto the bar, then leaned back. One hand or not, Griffin is ready to make an impact immediately for any team willing to give him the chance.

"Everybody in the stands was hyping me up".

If you are an National Football League team, this kid is worth a spot on your 53 and is going to get his teammates fired up every single play.

Draft analyst Mike Mayock of the NFL Network said Saturday that he was surprised Griffin had not been initially invited and that he "almost got choked up" watching his bench press. Doesn't matter - I'm going to get it in though. "Let's go!" Griffin recounted.

"That's just one step closer to everything I need to accomplish".

The crowd was hollering by now.

Can this really be happening?

Griffin did it again Sunday when he ran the fastest 40-yard dash by a linebacker at the combine - 4.38 seconds.

Griffin doesn't have a left hand.

Despite having just one hand, he kept up with his twin brother on and off the field. And I'm convinced that God has put me on this earth for a reason, and that reason is to show people that it doesn't matter what anybody else says, because people are going to doubt you regardless.

It's by far the best time for a linebacker at this year's combine.

Somebody is going to get a heck of a football player in this young man. I don't know if any of you were in the weight room today. However, his output on Saturday was more than three times what Griffin had set out to do at the beginning of the competition. "I think I beat that by a lot". "I still remember doing my first pull-up".

Using a prosthetic, Griffin put up 225 pounds 20 times.

"It's unbelievable to see how far I've come from not being able to bench the bar to throwing up 20 reps of 225 and being able to compete with the best here". I'm excited about tomorrow. Asked if he had outperformed his brother's work in the bench press at last year's combine, Shaquem said, "Oh, I did more than him in the bench".

Griffin is an inspiring story, but he's also doing well alongside his linebacker peers in Indianapolis.

Not all the defensive linemen and linebackers at the combine participated in the bench press.

"I said, this thing feels like 135". That near-decision gets more insane by the hour.
