The movie starring Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Minday Kaling, Chris Pine and newcomer Storm Reid grossed another $6.3 million overseas in six territories, so it still has a lot of room to grow its worldwide audience. Both movies opened to $33 million.
While that total is only half of what the original "Strangers" debuted to 2008, 'The Strangers: Prey at Night' was also made for half the budget and half the star power. $8.2 million, down nearly 52% from its opening weekend with $31.1 million grossed so far. The family-friendly Peter Rabbit finished in the sixth spot with $6.8 million to bring its five-week total to $93.5 million. With $26.2 million banked overseas, the movie has a worldwide gross of $120 million.
Sony's 12th weekend of "Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle" rounded out the top 10 with $2.7 million at 2,157 sites.
