Vincent Kompany: Jose Mourinho wants to SPOIL Manchester City's party

Premier League Stoke City vs Manchester City

Premier League Relegation-threatened Stoke City F.C. fell to a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City on Monday

Kompany said: "I think everybody in the blue side of Manchester knows it's a once in a lifetime opportunity".

"I can not think of a team as big and with as much quality as first of all Everton and then United, just letting us have a ideal moment".

"You can not deny that we're close to winning the league but you have to keep working and keep focused and as we did since the first day, game by game step by step and working hard every day every week every game you're going to get there".

City are now 16 points clear of second-placed Manchester United and if they win their next league game at Everton on March 31, they will set up a Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium where a win over their arch-rivals would secure the title.

Not only have we had the privilege of watching Man City play one of the most entertaining brands of football all season but they could treat us to the ideal setting when they win the title.

City's victory at Stoke came courtesy of two goals from David Silva, whose season has been disrupted because of a family crisis, following the premature birth of his son Mateo in December.

Furthermore, five wins from their last eight will see City hold the record or the most wins in a Premier League campaign.

"David Silva controls the tempo". It's good for me to play. It's not going to be but just a little bit of sun will do for us! Stoke, on the other hand, remain second from bottom and Saturday's home fixture against Everton feels critically important for a side that have now won only one of their last 11 league matches. "But credit to my team, they never capitulated", he said.

"Now, I came back and everyone wanted to know what they train like at Man City if we can start training like that, so today I am giving them a nice Man City training session (laughs)", McCarthy revealed as he prepares his charges to take on Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup at the Cape Town Stadium tomorrow.

"But this game is not going to define our season, not at all". "We managed to take an important step today, a hard, complicated opponent, fighting to stay in the Premier League".

Stoke also had a bit of success when they played more direct, with one long punt upfield from Jack Butland ending up with Kyle Walker, under pressure from Jesé Rodríguez, almost scoring a spectacular own goal.

The in-form English team are also in with a strong chance of winning Europe's premier prize for the first time in their history.
