The LAPD said they believed the remains were those of Shabani, and that a 33-year-old man with whom she had an intimate relationship, Christopher Spotz, was a person of interest in her disappearance and ultimate death. "Adea Shabani", a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department told reporters during a press conference on Tuesday.
Shabani was last seen the afternoon of February 23 leaving her home near the 1700 block of Wilcox Avenue, between Hollywood Boulevard and Franklin Avenue, Hayes said.
The Nevada County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday the investigators found human remains in a shallow grave in a bank of the Spenceville Wildlife Area around 8 a.m.
"We can not say that conclusively at this point in time because the condition of the remains prohibited positive identification", he said.
Bringolf said Los Angeles police detectives searching for 25-year-old Adea Shabani led investigators to the grave 56 miles (90 kilometers) north of Sacramento.More news: Russians Grieve As At Least 53 Killed In Siberian Shopping Mall Fire
A native of Macedonia, Shabani moved to the USA less than two years ago to pursue an acting career. The case has been deemed a homicide, but the cause of death will not be determined until toxicology and tissue analysis are completed, authorities said.
He was believed to be the last person to see Shabani alive after surveillance video showed them both in an elevator in her Hollywood apartment building on February 23. The pair were traveling up to northern California, according to police. The family had offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to her recovery.
Later that week, Spotz made a statement through an attorney saying he and Shabani were driving to Northern California together when they argued near Santa Clarita, Hayes said.
Captain Hayes said the aspiring actress is now believed to be dead and a homicide investigation has been launched.
He told cops the pair had an argument during the drive and he let her out on the side of motorway, but didn't see her again, officers say.
San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies spotted it on March 22, near the 10 and 15 freeways. On Thursday, he led police on a short chase in Riverside County, where he exited the freeway and fatally shot himself in the head.
