Winning Mega Millions ticket worth $521 million sells in New Jersey



A single winning ticket was sold in Friday's $521 million jackpot, according to the Mega Millions website.

The ticket matched all six numbers drawn - 11, 28, 31, 46, and 59 plus the gold Mega Ball 1.

Local business owners, that sell lottery tickets, say they've seen more traffic coming through their stores than usual due to the large jackpot. "A lot of outside people coming in".

Six years ago on March 30 a jackpot of $656 million was won by an IL couple.

There hasn't been a jackpot victor since January. "We sell tickets all the time, all day".

The recipient could choose the $521 million annuity payment option, doled out over the course of 29 years.

Friday night's drawing also produced two $1 million winning tickets, where players in OH and Texas matched all five white balls.

The jackpot amount had climbed from United States $502 million to USA $521 million earlier in the day, but the final amount of the prize hadn't been announced late on Friday. The jackpot had a cash value of $317 million.

Riverdale is in northeastern New Jersey, about 30 miles outside of New York City.

Riverdale, which is home to the station where the winning ticket was bought, is located in Morris County.

Mega Millions is played in 44 states, as well as Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

If no winning ticket has been sold, the jackpot will once more roll over into next week, at that point likely becoming the third-largest jackpot ever.

The jackpot for Tuesday's drawing will be $40 million.
