Trump Slams Comey As 'Weak And Untruthful Slime Ball'

President Donald Trump fired off a series of angry tweets directed at the former Federal Bureau of Investigation director Sunday morning, ahead of James Comey's upcoming book tour.

It's the first sit-down, televised interview Comey has given since he was sacked by President Donald Trump a year ago and the first in a series of interviews he will sit for in the coming weeks.

Trump also attacked Comey for saying in the book that political considerations may have driven him to reopen the Clinton investigation in the last days of the election campaign.

The phrase is associated with President George W. Bush, who used it in 2003 during the Iraq war but which dogged him for the rest of his presidency. I hardly even knew this guy", Trump wrote in a follow-up tweet, before adding, "Just another of his many lies.

A little after 9 a.m. Sunday, Trump returned his focus to Comey.

According to those reports, Comey writes that Trump is "unethical and untethered to the truth" and compares his presidency to a "forest fire". But he says he believes he did the right thing by going before the cameras and making his statement, noting that the Justice Department had done so in other high-profile cases.

The excerpts from Mr Comey's memoir have infuriated the USA president, who insisted that he "never asked Comey for personal loyalty" and the he "hardly even knew this guy".

In Sunday's tweets, Trump cited Comey's admission about his decision-making and asserted, confusingly, that he handled the investigation how he did because he wanted a job, presumably in the Clinton administration.

Comey himself admits in his new book, "A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership," that he was shocked Trump won.

Trump references a meeting that Bill Clinton - whom he calls "Wild Bill" - and Lynch had on a Phoenix tarmac in July 2016 that was seen as questionable, as Lynch was leading the investigation into Hillary Clinton.

Mr. Trump balked at that description, writing on Twitter, "Was she promised a Supreme Court seat, or AG, in order to lay off Hillary".

President Donald Trump speaks in the Diplomatic Reception Room of the White House on Friday, April 13, 2018, in Washington, about the United States' military response to Syria's chemical weapon attack on April 7. Apparently unable to find any Trump collusion with Russian Federation, his initial assignment, Mueller and his handler, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, authorized a highly unusual raid on Trump's lawyer, Michael Cohen.
