"I was taking the dogs out and I just, I tripped", the 35-year-old country star said on the The Bobby Bones podcast.
Leading up to the ACMs, Underwood took to her website with a note letting everyone know that she's been "doing pretty darn good".
Carrie Underwood will drop a new album this fall. There was one lone step.
Watch Underwood's interview with Bones below. "[The accident] happened shortly after the CMAs", she said on the Storme Warren Show.
"['Cry Pretty'] is kind of just all about emotions, and I feel like as humans we're just kind of expected to have our crap together all the time", Underwood said.
Billboard ranked the "vocal dynamo" performance as the best of the night, touting "this is how you do an award show performance", while Rolling Stone noted Underwood "channeled her inner country-soul diva" during the "knockout rendition". "I'm still shaking right now".
There's a scar that she covers in makeup - cement and spackling paste, she jokes - but she's also been "very fortunate in the healing process". "And then as soon as the song's over, it's like I'm Carrie again, and I just wanna kinda get off the stage".More news: Commission approves six-month suspension for Alvarez

The "Cry Pretty" singer told Bobby Bones that she "didn't know how things were going to end up" after that fateful night in November. "For a while, I was anxious he would be scared of me". I didn't know what it was gonna heal like.
"I was nervous about music, first and foremost", says Underwood.
This also marks the first album that Underwood will have a hand in producing.
