Shah's this two-day visit to State is seen as crucial for the party which aims to make Congress-mukt Karnataka. Doesn't the BJP have any leaders in Karnataka to campaign for it?
The BJP president also underlined the schemes and policies of the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Centre for the welfare of farmers. Just half an hour prior to that, Karnataka Congress state unit chief G Parameshwara paid his tribute to the same statue.
She said "Our president will be meeting social thinkers and writers Dr Chidananda Murthy and Prof Siddalingaiah to seek their advice and their views would be added in the party's election manifesto".
Rao is pitted against state chief minister Siddaramaiah and sitting Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) legislator G T Deve Gowda from the constituency in a triangular contest.
In midst of the tributes, a sharp comment by BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje made Ramalinga Reddy lose his cool. He accused the opposition party of playing vote bank politics.More news: Summary of Marston's PLC (LON:MARS) Ratings on April 21, 2018
Reddy hit back saying that Basaveshwara is not Karandlaje's property.
Shah charged that Rahul tried to bring bad repute to Hindu culture by coining and using terms like "bhagwa aatankvaad" (saffron terror).
However, before his arrival, the police arrested several from the community and dispersed the protesters from the location.
Today's gesture by BJP members comes as a surprise as they had previously slammed Siddaramaiah of "dividing the Hindus" when he had announced separate religion status to the Lingayats last month.
Almost a month back, Chief Minister Siddariamaiah, perhaps taking a cue from senior Congress leader, Kapil Sibal, had said that Mr Shah, who claimed to be the champion of Hindutva, was not a Hindu, but a Jain. Now with some Congress leaders here joining the BJP, it is our responsibility to develop it by leaps and bounds.
