The NFL Draft is heading into a remainder of single digit days before the events get going in Dallas, and we are entering into the final territories of anticipation for every pick of the 2018 Draft. And that's not to say whoever the first running back is taken can't be a franchise difference-maker. While all of these players fit needs for the Giants and could be transcendent players, not all make sense at the second pick.
The Jets have been one of the busier, more aggressive teams during free agency this offseason thanks to plenty of cap space.
If the Browns selected a quarterback with their first-round picks at No. 1 and No. 4, it would be unprecedented. However, Saints were unable to sign big-name DE or DT, so those areas could become draft priorities, particularly in light of coach Sean Payton's recent comments that improving pass rush is "a must". The next trade option is with the Broncos at No. 5. I see them drafting their quarterback No. 1 overall and then possibly selecting a Chubb or Barkley at No. 4 unless someone makes them a great trade offer.
Veach tried last summer to trade for wide receiver Sammy Watkins.
Other surprising selections in this mock include UTSA edge defender Marcus Davenport (No. 9 overall, San Francisco 49ers), Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph (No. 12 overall, Buffalo Bills) and Boise State linebacker Leighton Vander Esch (No. 18 overall, Seattle Seahawks). Just past year they moved up in the first round to draft Patrick Mahomes II and in the third round to get Kareem Hunt.
The beauty of having picks 33, 35 and 64 is Dorsey can stand pat, or he can package two picks to move back into the first round. Instead I chose to put together a mock draft that centered on numerous options that I have profiled over the past four weeks.
General Manager Brandon Beane said at the Bills' pre-draft news conference that it could be a successful draft for the team even if it doesn't use an early pick on a prospective franchise quarterback.
