Seahawks swap with Packers, trading down in first round

Packers double down on secondary, take second CB in 2nd round of draft

Josh Jackson selected by Green Bay in 2nd Round of NFL Draft

Entering the 2018 NFL Draft, most agreed that the Green Bay Packers would target a cornerback in the first round.

According to the Jimmy Johnson trade chart, which teams have used for decades to gauge the value of draft pick trades, the Packers "won" that deal.

Coach Mike McCarthy didn't appear anxious. I would have been more than content if they took him at 14.

Pass defense was a problem on a team that finished 7-9 past year.

The Saints sent their own first-round pick, a fifth-rounder, and their 2019 first-round pick to the Packers to move up from the 27th to the 14th pick.

The setback set up an off-season of change.

Mike Pettine is the new defensive coordinator in Green Bay and should be ecstatic about bringing in a playmaker like Jackson. He was named second team All-ACC and developed into one of the most physical and top cover cornerbacks in the country.

Jackson is 65th selection under Kirk Ferentz, 9th second round selection, and 13th defensive back!

Mizzou's J'Mon Moore selected in 2018. He played 108 games for the Packers, carrying the ball 821 times for 3,157 yards and 28 touchdowns, catching 142 career passes for 1,255 yards and 10 touchdowns. Depth in the position group behind Davante Adams and Randall Cobb seemed to be a priority in the later rounds.

Wide receiver and offensive line are also position of needs. Brown in the sixth round. The Packers have been a draft and develop team essentially since Ron Wolf took over the reigns in titletown.

"You hope the guys embrace it and are pros about it and try to get better", scout Matt Malaspina said. He is also the Crimson Tide's all-time leader in punting average at 45.6 yards per punt. Bradley is the first snapper of longer than normal snaps to be selected this year. He played in 12 games with one start as a true freshman and finished with 19 tackles and one interception. But the Packers like his versatility and plan to use him at guard.

Green Bay returned to defence with its two other seventh-round picks, selecting end James Looney from California and edge rusher Kendall Donnerson from Southeast Missouri State.

While he's learning on defense, Alexander can still be extremely helpful for the Packers.

Meanwhile, third-year man Kyler Fackrell and second-year players Vince Biegel and Reggie Gilbert all have some degree of promise - especially Biegel - but they are unproven.

"The 6'5", 214-pound receiver showed some quickness at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis with a 4.48 40-yard dash and added 20 bench-press reps to his showing. Rounds 5-7 are simply just preferred free agents.
