Tehran has repeatedly vowed revenge after the T-4 army base in Syria was struck in an air raid - widely attributed to Israel - on April 9, killing at least seven members of the IRGC, including a senior officer responsible for the group's drone program.
United Nations secretary general Antonio Guterres on Thursday appealed for an "immediate halt to all hostile acts" in the Middle East, following an escalating military confrontation between Israel and Iranian forces in Syria.
"Enemy forces who approach the border and try to carry out an attack against us - we'll take care to drive them back, with any means necessary", he said. They must understand that if it rains here, it will pour there.
No Israelis were hurt in the attack.
Syrian state media reported that Israeli missiles had hit military bases, as well as an arms depot and a military radar installation, without specifying the locations. Damascus residents said a series of explosions shook the city just before dawn.
The scale of Israeli fire appeared to be far higher than in previous incidents.
The Israeli military said that several missiles hit the target, others were intercepted.

A number of rockets were intercepted by the IDF's Iron Dome aerial defense system. "It was ordered and commanded by Qassem Soleimani and it has not achieved its objective", he said.
Russian Federation was informed in advance of Israel's strikes on Thursday, Conricus said.
Syrian air defences, which fired dozens of times on Israeli jets, were also targeted, he said. "They are trying to transfer forces and deadly weapons there with the explicit goal of attacking the State of Israel as part of their strategy to destroy the State of Israel", Netanyahu stated.
The escalation in fighting between Syria and Iran follows a ratcheting up of tensions after President Trump's withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal, a move that Israel supported.
The Israeli army says it is investigating and has no further details.
"The United States also calls on all nations to make clear that the Iranian regime's actions pose a severe threat to global peace and stability", the statement reads.
Israel is concerned about its archrival Iran's involvement in the 7-year conflict in Syria, and fears it could establish a permanent presence there.
Iran has sent thousands of personnel over the years to shore up President Bashar Assad's forces in his fight against an insurgency.
