Luo said it was the 14th meeting between the two leaders over past four years.
Though new and old contentious issues remain, there has been a turnaround in bilateral ties since the military standoff was resolved last August. Gokhale also said that the bilateral meeting between the two leaders, on the sidelines of the SCO summit, was "positive". Xi also called for inclusive development and sustainable security, saying they can be achieved by enhancing mutual trust and the foundations for shared peace and security. "In that context a new people-to-people mechanism will be set up, headed by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on the Indian side and by State Councillor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi".
The SCO leaders are also expected to review the situation in the Korean peninsula, Afghanistan and Syria.
The SCO, launched in 2001 mainly to combat radical Islam and other security concerns across Central Asia, added traditional rivals India and Pakistan as members previous year.
The first MoU was inked between China's Ministry of Water Resources and India's Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation upon provision of hydrological information of the Brahmaputra river in flood season by China to India.
