Following the success of "Look At Me" Onfroy became, arguably, the most prominent artist working in a genre known as "SoundCloud rap", defined by both the narcotized lo-fi textures of its beats and the breadth of its influences, atypical for rap, which included the guitar-rooted forms of grunge, nü-metal and emo.

Kanye West and Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker also mourned his loss. "You were a true artist". RIP X. Enormous talent and limitless potential and a strong desire to be a better person. "God bless his family, friends and fans", J. Cole tweeted.

The entertainer, who sported dreadlocks and facial tattoos, was a rising star. He was facing 15 felony charges at the time of his death, including aggravated battery of a pregnant woman.

"Obviously, I'm one of the greatest of this generation, the upcoming generation, as far as artistry. F***, no." In that same profile, Ayala claimed she had been harassed by fans of Onfroy, telling Hitt: "I can't even go to the mall or Walmart without being noticed and eyed down".

His brief career was mired in controversy.

"Don't think I'm trying to be f--ing cliché or a weirdo when I say this, but I was going insane", he said. In March, a judge ruled that XXXTentacion could be released from house arrest in order to tour in support of his new album.

Rapper XXXTentacion was shot and killed Monday afternoon in Florida. "A lot of it was really lovely music, progressive music".

In an interview earlier this month with the Miami New Times, he talked about his history of violence which started in the classroom, where he attacked students in order to get his mother to pay him attention.

Although Ayala had accused him, she said she was devastated by his death and lashed out on Twitter on Tuesday: "I'm broken", one of her tweets read.

His music recently made headlines when Spotify announced they were pulling his music from their playlists.
